Mekong Delta coastal ecosystems are under pressure from degradation, requiring urgent restoration through nature-based solutions. Symmetry led the GEF-8 preparation phase by coordinating technical studies, assessing blue carbon and climate risks, exploring NbS financing options, and developing the full investment-ready project document for submission to the GEF.

Building Flood Resilient Community Through Adaptive Livelihood and Runoff Management in Petanglong, Indonesia

The BRAVE Project strengthens climate resilience in Central Java through an integrated watershed approach that combines climate-smart agriculture, adaptive livelihoods, nature-based solutions, and coastal restoration to reduce flood risk and enhance community resilience.
Symmetry served as the lead technical partner for the preparation of the full Green Climate Fund (GCF) Funding Proposal, leading project design, climate rationale, investment strategy, results framework, and all technical documentation for submission.

Climate Change Adaptation Concept Note Development of a Project in Nigiri Wayanad-Chaliyar Corridor for the Adaptation Fund

India’s Western Ghats face growing climate impacts, increasing ecosystem degradation and community vulnerability. Symmetry supported UNEP in developing an Adaptation Fund concept note by conducting consultations, drafting the proposal, and refining it through stakeholder and donor feedback for submission.

Promoting Nature Positive Food Systems in Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso faces severe land degradation, biodiversity loss, climate impacts, and food insecurity driven by unsustainable agriculture, requiring urgent transition to nature-positive food systems. Symmetry supported the design of a GEF-funded project (“Promoting Nature Positive Food Systems”) by developing the full project document, aligning stakeholders, and structuring interventions across key value chains to drive sustainable, scalable impact

Enhancing Integrated Watershed Management and Climate Resilience for Vulnerable Communities in Lao PDR
2024 – 2025
WWF-Laos and MONRE submitted a GEF LDCF concept in April 2024 for a climate resilience project in Sayaboury Province, Lao PDR, with Symmetry leading full proposal development. The project focuses on climate-resilient water management, agriculture, and livelihoods, with implementation expected in Q1 2026.

Climate Adaptation and PSAA Feasibility Lead for GCF Initiative in Vietnam

Symmetry supported CARE to develop a GCF Project-Specific Assessment Approach and Concept Note for climate adaptation investments in the Mekong region. The assignment includes climate risk and investment analysis, stakeholder engagement, alignment with GCF investment criteria, and preparation of a feasibility study and investment pitchbook to support a country owned financing proposal.

Upscaling Sustainable Forest Management in Pakistan
2025
Pakistan’s forests face deforestation and climate pressures, reducing carbon stocks and resilience while affecting vulnerable communities. Symmetry supported an IUCN–Government of Pakistan GCF project by leading assessments, stakeholder consultations, financing analysis, and developing an investment-ready concept for sustainable forest management.

Developing the GEF-8 Tiger Conservation in Thailand Project Document
2024
Symmetry supported the Department of National Parks and IUCN in developing the GEF-8 Project Document for tiger conservation in Thailand. The project aims to accelerate tiger recovery through prey restoration, habitat restoration, and community participation, strengthening Thailand’s role as the largest remaining stronghold for wild tigers in mainland Southeast Asia and enabling the species to recolonize former habitats.

GCF FEASIBILITY STUDY: CLIMATE ADAPTATION IN HUE PROVINCE, VIETNAM
2023
Co-led a GCF proposal. This required undertaking a Feasibility Study to examine critical barriers to transforming Hue province in Vietnam towards having systems and structures in place to effectively respond to worsening climate risks. This study would provide the rationale and project activities for a full GCF project proposal.
